  • The population of the Island is approx. 146,000
  • No place in the province is more than 16 km (10 mi) from the sea. You’ll find red sandy beaches on the South Shore and pristine, white sandy beaches on the North Shore.
  • There are two lobster seasons: The first of May until the end of June on the North Shore and mid-August to mid-October on the South side. Lobster accounts for two-thirds of the annual fishing income on the Island with a catch of 23M pounds annually. You’ll find lobster on the menu of most Island restaurants, while most visitors consider a traditional lobster supper a must. You can get fresh lobster from seafood markets located close by in North Rustico or Stanley Bridge and we’ll be happy to show you how to cook’em and crack’em.
  • Potatoes are PEI’s primary cash crop with a unique flavour because of the Island’s rich red soil.
  • The Island’s Blue Mussel accounts for 80% of all mussels consumed in North America. They are best steamed up and served fresh out of the pot with butter for dipping.
  • Our oysters were judged the world’s tastiest oyster at the Paris Exhibition in 1900. Known for their supreme quality and great taste, PEI oysters can be found in fine dining establishments, oyster bars, and kitchens across the Island and around the world. If you visit in September, be sure to check out the Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival.
  • Beaches, culinary delights, Anne of Green Gables, coastal touring and golf are all popular Island activities that are easily enjoyed from Cavendish Bosom Buddies in the heart of the North Shore.
  • The Island is accessible by ferry from Nova Scotia; The Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick or by air.
